Obaltan follows one family's struggles with money and the social upheavals of a rapidly changing society. This film was voted the best Korean film of all time by local critics in 1999.

The mentally troubled mother, the malnourished pregnant wife, the troublesome younger brother and her younger sister, the foreigner's whore, and the immature children. The hero, a public accountant, supports this family, but he can't afford to go to dentist. He even doesn't know how to do with his small salary. He wanders just watching his unfortunate family.
