About This DVD

A story for all fathers in Korea! -- "Son, you're the most precious thing to me."
"Father and Son: The Story of Mencius" is based on a true story of Mencius' mother, who moved three times for her son's education. In the film, Man-su believes that the happiness of his son depends on what university he gets into, and he is very determined to do virtually anything for his son. His effort might look absurd and ridiculous, but it stems from blind paternal love toward his son. From putting up a sign that says, "A Future Seoul National University Student," for his first birthday party, to borrowing money from a loan shark to rent an apartment in the wealthy area of Seoul, everything he does results from his na?ve faith that his son can only be happy when he gets into the best university in the country. The film is a comic, but touching story of a father whose only goal in life is to make his son happy.

What's wrong with the school system in Korea? -- A satire on reality of a distorted education system!
The school system in Korea changes too often, and what's taught in the classrooms is only how to get a good score on the SAT. And this leads to the fact that Korea is a country that spends most of it's money on private education. The land prices of areas with good private institutes have skyrocketed over the years, and lately, it's in fashion for parents to send their children abroad under the pretence of providing them with a better education. The school system and educational culture in Korea are to blame for the high teen suicide rate and the speculation on land in specific areas. is a comic satire that will serve as a window into the distorted educational system in Korea.

A funny and touching drama! -- It's a comedy with class.
All the episodes taking place in are very realistic and crudely funny. When the ending credits go up, the audience will find themselves sympathizing with the main character and his blind paternal love toward his son.
