About This DVD
3rd set of of MBC HDTV Drama Series "Jumong," which as of September 2006 tops the TV ratings in Korea. This series is about Jumong (aka King Dongmyeongseong), an actual historical figure of the early Korean history, tailored to appeal to the modern TV audience's appetite with the touch of melodrama and lots of actions!
Jumong was the son of Haemosu and Yuhwa of the Habaek nation. Haemosu was said to have been the son of Heaven who came riding down in a chariot driven by five dragons. He established Bukbuyeo, and was said to have met Yuhwa, the daughter of the river-god Habaek, by a river where she was bathing. The two got very close and married, nevertheless the opposition of Yuhwa's father. Later Haemosu had to return to heaven and disappeared. Habaek found out and chased Yuhwa away to Wobalsu. She then met Emperor Geumwa of Dongbuyeo. Geumwa took her in and supposedly gave her the title of Royal concubine, since he knew that Yuhwa is a wife of Bukbuyeo's king, Haemosu. Oneday, the sunlight shined on Yuwha. Although she tried to avoid the light, it followed her and shined on her. Since then, she was pregnant. When the time to give birth, she laid an egg instead of giving birth to a child. Hearing this, Geumwa became very frightened and tried to break it, but was not able to do so. Then he trashed the egg, and let the animals eat it. However the animals protected the egg. Thereby Geumwa returned it to its mother. Out of the egg came a baby boy. Yuhwa named her child 'Jumong,' which was said to mean "skilled archer."
