This is a story about a boy who lived in Jeju, playing around the island with friends and growing up through the Korean War (1950s). This auto biographic Bildungsroman of Hyeon Giyeong is based on his childhood memories about the beauty of the island and pranks of the little boy and his friends who were playful and energetic but whose life could never be absolutely free from the influence of the war. Hyeon Giyeong talks about his hometown, Jeju Island, along with Korean history. The author himself and others admit that Jeju Island's landscape and his childhood on it have built his works today.
