About This Book
The title of this book, "Struggle to Be the Sun Again," comes from the poem "The Hidden Sun," written by a Japanese woman, Hirachuka Raiko. In it, she sings, "Originally she was the sun, and he was the true man, but now she is the moon."
The implication is that Asian women were once independent human beings, but now they have become dependent women who live as men tell them to live. Therefore, Raiko saw Asian women's struggle for liberation as a struggle to "become the sun again."
I think this poetic phrase from Raiko captures Asian women's longing for wholeness.
