About This Book
At the age of fifteen, cat wizards leave the human world, enroll in Cat School, and learn magic. Cat School, Korea’s first serialized fantasy children’s book series, began in the summer of 2001 with the first volume of Part 1, Secret of the Crystal Cave, and concluded Part 1 in 2002 with its fifth volume, The Mountain of Souls. Five years later, Parts 2 and 3, each consisting of three volumes, completed the sweeping story, bringing the series to an eleven-volume conclusion.
With a devoted readership ranging from children to adults, Cat School opened up new possibilities for Korean children’s literature. Hailed as “the arrival of a masterpiece,” the series attracted considerable attention from both critics and readers, and fan communities were established on major online portals. It has since been published in France, Japan, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Poland, Russia, and other countries, becoming a work enjoyed by children around the world. In 2006, it also won the Prix des Incorruptibles, a prestigious French children’s and young adult literature award.
In 2022, twenty years after its original publication, Cat School was revised and reissued, featuring Parts 1 and 2 of the three-part series. Sentences and scenes that reflected the passage of time were refined, and the books were redesigned in a more compact format that is easier for children to hold.
