About This Book

MIND, a music-based group intervention model that complements the limitations of language-centered social skills training For children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), social skills are an area that requires learning. However, it has been pointed out that existing Social Skills Training (SST) is often structured based on the premise of language comprehension and cognitive abilities, which limits its applicability to children with diverse developmental levels.

MIND (Music-Interaction-Network-Diversity) is a program that originated from this awareness of the problem. MIND is a social skills training program designed to enhance interaction experiences within a group using music as a medium. Through musical activities, children naturally experience the process of listening to each other's sounds, waiting, and harmonizing; within this experience, they learn their roles within relationships and the meaning of cooperation.

The program consists of a total of 12 sessions, starting with basic interaction experiences, progressing through emotion recognition and information exchange, and expanding to the execution of collaborative music projects. It systematically presents activities and operational guidelines for each session and includes intervention methods for problematic situations based on ABA, enabling its practical application in actual clinical settings.

This manual was spearheaded by Professor Chun Geun-ah, Head of the Department of Child Psychiatry at Severance Hospital and Director of the Min Yoon-gi Treatment Center, with participation from artist BTS's Suga (real name: Min Yoon-gi) from the planning stage. This holds substantial significance not merely as sponsorship, but as a collaboration regarding the program's concept and implementation structure.

The MIND program is not simply an extension of music therapy, but a new approach to social skills training designed to facilitate the learning of social interaction through group experiences. This manual is expected to serve as a practical guide that helps domestic and international experts and therapists share the program's philosophy and procedures and utilize them in actual clinical settings.
