The novel unfolds the lives of people living under the inescapable condition of having a body, vividly portrayed through the story of two sisters, Anna and Kyung-seon. In the author’s note, Eun Hee-kyung writes that she wanted to tell “the story of time, space, and society contained within a person’s body.” She also describes the novel as the culmination of a “trilogy of time” that connects Bird's Gift, The Past of Light, and The Touch of Time, united by the shared theme of “a journey of discovery and growth.”
